Parent Volunteer Literacy Program

We would like to thank all the volunteers for their time and commitment to help make the Parent Volunteer Literacy Program a success over the past few years. This year we had numerous volunteers read with more than twenty students weekly. We have noticed the many benefits of this program and the students have expressed their enjoyment in meeting with their volunteers. When adults read with students, they help them to increase their vocabulary and learn skills needed for literacy success. As a result of this support, children who enjoy the benefits of reading with adults also become better writers. Research has shown that reading with children one-on-one sets the stage for future academic achievements. We are grateful to our volunteers for helping to make Regal Road an exciting place to learn!

Please join us for our production of Hamlet on Wednesday June 15.  We will have two shows – one at 1:00 and the other at 6:30.  Admission is $2.00.  The actors and crew are many of our grades 4, 5 and 6 students.

Summer Footwear

Please help your children avoid falls and injuries to toes and ankles by ensuring that they wear sandals which are appropriate for our steep staircases, playground equipment, and active play.

Join us for TDSB@CNE!

You and your family are invited to TDSB@CNE. On Tuesday, August 30, the TDSB is partnering with the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) to host an awesome kick off to the 2011-12 school year and provide a day to remember for our students, families and staff.

All TDSB elementary and secondary students will receive free admission to the CNE for TDSB Day and there will be a discounted cost for families and staff.

Elementary students will receive a free ticket in their year-end report card and secondary students will simply need to show their student ID at the gate for entry.

Please visit and use PIN number 2011TDSB435561 when asked, to buy discounted tickets online, in advance.

This all-day event will include music, entertainment, contests, giveaways and more! There will be three concert events in the YOUR JAM Bandshell – planned just for the TDSB! We’ve started to gather a remarkable line-up of entertainers, including Max and Ruby and Franklin and Caillou, perfect for our elementary guests. We’re also working on some great entertainment for our middle and secondary students – look for the announcement of more entertainers in the weeks to come!

In addition to the stage events, TDSB guests can test their strength against the CNE strongman, enjoy discounted rides, stroll through the TDSB Student Art Show or the TDSB Student Film Festival and wander through the CNE’s Animal Farm.

Leading up to the event, there will be many ways for our students to get involved, whether it’s through submitting work to feature, participating in contests to win prizes or to audition or volunteer to be a special part of the day. Please help us build the excitement.

Integrity – May’s Theme

In Room 13 we have been busy talking, reading, making skits and writing poems about L'integrite.  The students were eager to work in groups in order to write and interpret the poem that they wrote.  Some of the examples they provided about what L'integrite is include:

Integrity means being nice, sharing, telling the truth, not cheating, not copying negative behaviour, caring for nature and for animals, be a good friend, stand up to bullies and many others.

We benefited greatly from talking about L'integrite and the students took pride in the deeds they do every day that show L'integrite.

~ Mme. Neicov

This month students at Regal Road have been studying poetry and so at this month’s success assembly celebrating the characteristic of INTEGRITY, Room 22 students read the following poem aloud.

INTEGRITY by Gary Dodd

Integrity is standing up for what you believe in.

It is treating everyone equally and fairly, acting independent of others that do otherwise.

It is being open and honest, responsible for all of your actions.

It is speaking out when others are treated poorly.

It is refusing to participate in actions detrimental to others.

It is admitting and apologizing for your errors, when mistakes are made.

It is respecting your environment, your fellow humans, and yourself.

Integrity is not a characteristic; it is a way of life.

It is what you do, and what you say, always.

It sets you apart from others; it defines you as a person.

Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Be upstanding, be forthright, be conscious of your actions.

Remember to always act with integrity.
