Fairness – Room 17

We have done a “read-aloud” of “Have you filled a bucket today?”

This was followed by numerous discussions about “filling someone else’s bucket: on a daily basis.”  That is to say, giving compliments, being a friend, smiling, being helpful, sharing, playing fair, being cooperative, etc. Students followed a “how to” for folding paper into “buckets” and they wrote positive comments on Post-Its to slip into each other’s buckets.  Student learned a bucket-filling echo chant for shared reading and took turns reading aloud a sentence from the picture book (i.e. Reader’s Theatre).  The performance for the Fairness Assembly included playing of song upon entry into the gym (Starts from the Heart by Maxi Priest) with reader’s theatre and chanting.

Island Natural Science School

All our grade 5 and 6 students will be going to the Island Natural Science School in April. Rooms 24, 30 and the grade 5 students from Room 22 will be going from 23 to 25 April; Rooms 25 and 31 will be going from 25 to 27 April.  The cost of the trip for each student is $75.00.

Please return all the permission and medical forms to the school as early as possible.

Junior Kindergarten Open House, 7 & 10 May 2012

Room 1:  Monday, May 7        9:30-10:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Room 2: Thursday, May 10    9:30-10:30 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Student Entry

We try to get the students in as efficiently as possible at morning entry. We request that parents stand away from the lines (to the side).  Please do not walk through the lines either but around. It is important to follow these requests so students can enter safely and teachers can supervise without any hindrance.

Lateness

After a good start to the school year, late arrivals increased slightly. Please remember that teaching begins at 9:00 a.m. and late arrivals are disruptive to the class.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration is happening now. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their child now for Kindergarten classes that begin in September 2012.

To attend Junior Kindergarten in September, children must turn four by December 31st, 2012. To attend Senior Kindergarten, children must turn five by December 31st, 2012.

To register a child, parents/guardians must bring:

  • Proof of age (birth certificate, passport or baptismal record)
  • Health card
  • Record of Immunization
  • Two forms of proof of address bearing the parent’s name and address, e.g., telephone bill, government correspondence, bank statement, credit card bill, etc.

Note:
If your child was not born in Canada, verification of date of arrival is required. Families who are permanent residents and refugee claimants may register directly at the school. All other families should visit the International Program and Admissions Office, Toronto District School Board (TDSB), 5050 Yonge Street, for a TDSB School Admission Letter. Children without immigration status are welcome in our schools and information about them or their families shall not be shared with immigration authorities, as per TDSB Policy P.061 SCH.

Extra Clothing

Students often get wet or muddy during recess or lunch-hour. It would be useful to have an extra set of old clothes in school for these occasions, especially if you are not available to drop by at any time.

Volunteer Literacy Program

The program involves volunteers reading with students in a half hour block. This is an extremely valuable program that supports student learning at Regal Road.  With your help we can make this “Unique to Regal Road” program even better.  For more information please contact Vice-Principal Norbert Costa @ 416-393-1390, or drop by the office.

Visitors to the School

Our first priority for all students is their safety. Board and Provincial guidelines clearly outline the process that all visitors must follow upon their arrival on school property, which begins with reporting to the Main Office to sign in and again to sign out when you leave. You will be issued a Visitor Badge, which must be worn visibly during your stay. At dismissal time, please meet your child (ren) at the designated outside door.
